The founding of the Roanoke Valley Breast Cancer Coalition (RVBCC) by Ms. Patricia Peele, M. Ed, and Audrey Hardy, RN, MSN, highlights a strong dedication to supporting underserved women battling breast cancer. By uniting healthcare professionals and community leaders, the coalition harnesses combined expertise and resources to make a meaningful impact on those affected by the disease. The use of Lay Health Advisers for outreach in non-traditional settings exemplifies innovative strategies to reach populations with limited healthcare access. This collaborative and proactive approach has the potential to greatly reduce breast cancer mortality rates in both the Roanoke Valley and eastern North Carolina.
Mission Statement: RVBCC educating, mobilizing, advocating, and empowering individuals to improve breast health, and to improve the health outcomes of those affected by cancer.
Vision Statement: a leading voice for improving health outcomes and reducing care disparities of the underserved populations.
Our Initiatives
Pink Print: An innovative program designed to provide comprehensive information and resources to breast cancer patients and their families. The Pink Print includes guidelines on treatment options, recovery, and support services available in the Roanoke Valley.
Early Detection Campaign: We emphasize the importance of early detection through regular screenings and self-examinations. Our outreach programs aim to educate the community about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, encouraging proactive health measures.
Pink Link Project: This initiative offers crucial support for breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment. By connecting patients with necessary medical services and resources, we strive to ensure no one faces breast cancer alone.
Community Support: The Coalition receives generous donations from local organizations, such as the contributions from local sororities, which enable us to expand our services and reach more individuals in need. These partnerships are vital in sustaining our mission and supporting our programs.
Education and Advocacy
We believe that being informed is the best way to beat breast cancer. Our educational forums and workshops provide valuable information on healthy living, risk factors, and the latest research in breast cancer prevention and treatment. By fostering a well-informed community, we aim to reduce the impact of breast cancer and save lives.
